Chief Program & Impact Officer

Employment. Full-time.

About Successif

At Successif, we strive to help mitigate AI Global Catastrophic Risk by supporting individuals and organizations to work on it. We do this by supporting both those who aim to change careers and those already in the field. We provide personalized coaching, specialized training, and consulting services.

Our personalized advising program connects professionals considering a career transition with dedicated career advisors who bring expertise in both mid-career transitions and AI developments. Advisors offer strategic guidance and practical support for job searches and help build a supportive community of peers making similar transitions.

As a mission-driven organization, Successif is committed to building a diverse field of professionals working on AI risk reduction. The team provides specialized support for women and other underrepresented groups, ensuring all voices contribute to this critical work. We are a team of about ten people working remotely from four continents.

Our culture is built on a foundation of empathy and joy, to create a psychologically safe and passionate environment for our team and the people we serve. Our goal is to have a positive and sustainable impact. We achieve this through empowerment, providing the tools and support for individuals to become agents of their own growth. Guiding our work is a commitment to openness - welcoming new ideas and feedback - and fairness, ensuring we value diverse perspectives and treat everyone with dignity and respect.

About the Role

This is a flexible senior role, with the title determined based on your specific strengths, including Chief Program Officer, Chief Product Officer, or Director of Advising.
You will act as an 'impact architect,' designing the frameworks that allow us to measure and maximize our effectiveness in career advising and other programs. You will partner with the interim CEO to operationalize the organizational vision and provide high-level strategic feedback. You'll work closely with our team of advisors and program staff to gather insights and test improvements. You have experience operating in ambiguity and navigating uncertainty. You value deep research, but treat it as a tool for eventual decision-making, ensuring that the quest for perfect data doesn't prevent organizational momentum.

Responsibilities

As a senior leader at Successif, your primary focus is to identify what needs to be known to assess how to improve the organization, ask for that data, and make informed recommendations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Program Overhaul: Playing a significant role in improving our career advising program and refining the strategy behind it. This includes addressing current gaps, such as subject-matter expertise and needs in Measurement Learning Evaluation Practice (MLE).

  • Data & Decision Architecture: Knowing what data needs to exist to make decisions. You will design and implement rapid feedback loops that enable frequent iteration on the product. You will bridge the gap between academic rigor and startup speed.

  • Cost-Effectiveness Analysis: Demonstrating the ability to audit program costs and drive iterative cost-effectiveness improvements. You will be responsible for validating that our intervention model is scalable within our financial constraints prior to our next funding cycle.

  • Ecosystem Engagement: Embedding into the AI safety ecosystem and taking part in community conversations on career transitions to ensure Successif is included in coordinated efforts.

  • External Outreach: Reaching out to people in the ecosystem and getting insights directly from the outside.

Qualifications

We anticipate that this position will be particularly suitable for candidates who are strategy-first profiles rather than operations-first.

Our ideal candidate will possess most of the following qualifications and skills:

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to reason clearly about data and impact.

  • Program Improvement: Experience improving programs or a strong analytical foundation to develop program improvement capabilities.

  • Strategic Mindset: Demonstrated ability to question assumptions and diagnose organizational bottlenecks.

  • Mission Alignment: Demonstrable interest or prior exposure to AI Safety/Global Catastrophic Risks (GCR).

  • Background: We believe people who are good at assessing data and forming hypotheses usually have backgrounds in public policy, economics, evaluation/MLE, applied social science, or research. We value candidates who have successfully operationalized these frameworks in a resource-constrained, fast-moving environment. We are open to other backgrounds as well.

The following qualifications are not required, but will represent an advantage for the candidate:

  • Expertise in AI policy, AI law, or technical AI safety.

  • Existing network in AI safety ecosystems.

  • Prior exposure to grant-funded or nonprofit organizations.

If you meet some but not all qualifications and believe you could excel in this role, we strongly encourage you to apply

  • $100,000 USD in Berlin or Vienna

In rare cases where salary considerations would prevent a candidate from accepting an offer, there may also be some flexibility in compensation.

In addition to the salary, benefits associated with the role include health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible work hours, an annual wellbeing budget (covering gym access and some mental health support), minimum 8 weeks of parental leave at 100% pay* a personal development budget, home office set-up support, coverage for coworking space costs, and 36 days of paid vacation (including public holidays) or what is compliant with the employment law of your country if it is more than that.
